Polyurethane adhesives are used to produce high-performance materials such as electronics and car components. Croda offers Priplast biobased polyols that bring excellent durability and moisture protection, while ranging from soft to high-strength, depending on the application need. These polyols are made from natural oils with enhanced substrate wetting and offer lasting (low temperature) flexibility, which allows absorbing differences in thermal expansion. The hydrocarbon character imparts water resistance and affinity for a wide range of substrates, such as metal and various plastics, including low-energy substrates. This enables multi-material design and lightweighting.
Furthermore, the bio-based polyols offer a unique combination of hydrolytic, thermo-oxidative and UV stability, which is highly relevant for demanding applications like structural automotive bonding, food packaging and sealing of electronic components and sensors or displays.
With these polyols that are up to 100% biobased, adhesives can be used to enhance sustainability of products by reducing the carbon footprint of the adhesive and enabling in-use benefits. They allow durable solutions and sealing for moisture in multi-material assembly and lightweight design.
